Success for Charlie!

One of Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band’s youngest members, Charlie Boax, recently took part in the in the Grange Academy Young Instrumentalist competition as part of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition. Charlie, who plays 2ndBaritone within the band, took to the stage to perform The Carnival of Venice. Her performance was praised by adjudicators who put her through to the East Ayrshire Schools Final, representing Grange Academy. With less than 2 days to prepare for the final, she was told that a contrasting piece was required to be added to her repertoire, which she chose to be “Share My Yoke”. Musical Director Appointment

Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band are excited to announce the appointment of Lewis Bettles as Musical Director. Picking up his first brass instrument aged just 8 years old, Lewis has gained recognition as he has won many prizes and awards for his performances including BBC’s Young Musician of the Year award where he appeared as a Brass Finalist in 2014 and as a semi-finalist in BBC Radio 2’s Young Brass Band award in 2017. By the age of 15, Lewis had already played with multiple Championship Section bands in and around his hometown of Sheffield.
