2012 Round-up & Seasons Greetings

2012 for Irvine & Dreghorn Brass Band

The senior band have had a very busy year, in March the band took part in the Scottish area competition; during the summer months the band played at various gala days around Ayrshire, including Stewarton Bonnet Guild, Largs Viking Festival and of course Marymass. On the same day as Marymass we also played at the Land O Burns Competition in Troon – that was a very busy day and we arrived at Marymass in a convoy of cars directly from Troon!

In October we attended the Fife Charities Contest in Kirkcaldy where we came 10th from 18 bands. Then in November we took part in the Annual Borders competition in Selkirk. We finished in 7th place from 21. Then less than 2 weeks ago we also attended the Scottish Shield Competition in Perth finishing 5th. We were very pleased with all these results!

In November our training band made the journey to Perth for their second ever competition – at the Scottish Youth Championships – and they came away with a bronze award. The committee and members of the main band are all very proud of them – roll on next year!

Maybe our beginners band may also be able to compete there next year? Thanks to Big Lottery Funding we also have approx 20 youngsters learning to play a brass instrument every Sunday afternoon. They could be playing in the main band in a few years!

If you know of a young ‘un who may like to learn to play a brass or percussion instrument – please get in touch, it’s not too late for them to join the beginners programme.

Thank you all your your continued support throughout this busy year.

We wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
