The Big Reveal! The 2014 Slow Melody Adjudicator and Guest Soloist

We are pleased to announce that our Adjudicator and Guest Soloist for the 2014 Slow Melody is Conductor and Star Eb Bass player, Joe Cook.

A graduate of the University of Leeds, Joe was a star player with Black Dyke Band for 14 years before moving on to pastures new as a Conductor.

A former winner of the Stanley Wainwright Memorial Trophy for Best Soloist at the British Open; his first solo album “Debut” was released in 2008, to critical acclaim.

He has also commissioned major works for tuba and brass band by composers Philip Wilby and Dan Price. Joe is currently musical director with Fishburn Band having previously held the Musical Director position at the GT Group Peterlee Band. He combines his conducting commitments at Fishburn with his teaching and playing, which have recently included concerts with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
