Fife Charities Band Association Contest 2017

On Saturday 30th September Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band competed in the Fife Charities Band Association Contest in Kirkcaldy. Just two weeks after appearing at the National Finals in Cheltenham IDB produced another fine rendition of the test piece 'Hinemoa'. The FCBA Contest is also one of the few contests in the UK that requires the bands competing to play a march and hymn tune along with their test piece. IDB added 'The New Colonial March' and 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind' to their programme.

For our performance we won the Best 3rd Section prize.

Our Musical Director, Helen Douthwaite-Teasdale, on our Fife performance:

"I am happy that the band had another opportunity to perform the test piece Hinemoa from our recent trip to the National Championships in Cheltenham on a slightly less daunting stage.  It allowed us to build on the performance of 2 weeks earlier and aim for even more detail and storytelling. We had some fine soloistic playing and lots of positive comments from the adjudicator including our warm sounds and detail in ensemble, which earned us the title of ‘Best Third Section Band’ at the contest. On a personal note it was great to end my tenure with band by celebrating with some silverware and a confident, musical performance."

Congratulations to our friends at Kilmarnock Concert Brass for winning the Best 4th Section award.

Thank you to the band and MD for their hard work and dedication in what has been a very busy, but rewarding September!
