One of Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band’s youngest members, Charlie Boax, recently took part in the in the Grange Academy Young Instrumentalist competition as part of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition. Charlie, who plays 2ndBaritone within the band, took to the stage to perform The Carnival of Venice. Her performance was praised by adjudicators who put her through to the East Ayrshire Schools Final, representing Grange Academy. With less than 2 days to prepare for the final, she was told that a contrasting piece was required to be added to her repertoire, which she chose to be “Share My Yoke”. Charlie then went on to win the East Ayrshire Schools Final, which was held at Leigh Kirk in Kilmarnock, to qualify her for the final of the West of Scotland Rotary Competition to be held in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Sunday 3rdMarch.
Charlie’s parents, who are both active members within Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band, are both proud of her achievements, taking to Facebook to share her achievements with friends and family. The band are also extremely proud of Charlie’s achievements are wish her the best of luck on the 3rd of March.
