Dunaskin Doon Celebrate 150 Years!

Members from Irvine and Dreghorn Brass recently attended a concert held by friends Dunaskin Doon Band celebrating their 150 years of banding! The concert featured guest soloist Sheona White, who originally played for Dunaskin Doon before making her way south of the border for her studies. Sheona wowed the audience with her variety of solos which included Capriccio Brillante arranged by Sandy Smith and The Piper O’ Dundee by Kenneth Downie.

During the closing remarks, MD Chris Bradley presented the band with a small token on behalf of the Scottish Brass Band Association as a congratulations on achieving this incredible milestone. Another milestone that was recognised at the concert was the 50 years of banding achieved by Dunaskin Doon veteran Blane McKnight who was awarded his SBBA ‘Life Membership Award’.

The concert was a resounding success and a great chance for MD Chris Bradley to reflect upon his past 4 years with the band as he steps back from the post due to his own playing commitments. Before conducting his final piece with Dunaskin, Chris remarked:

“It’s not adieu, it’s au revoir”
